VOLUNTEERS
Join us, become a volunteer!
Volunteering is at the heart of TOMNET. By working together, our team of volunteers make a positive difference to the wellbeing of isolated and lonely older men in the community.
This work is terrific. I reckon meeting other blokes in town and country and connecting them up is pretty worthwhile. I get a lot out of it myself. We older fellows have a lot in common don't we.
~Trevor
Why volunteer?
Becoming a volunteer opens up a world of opportuntiy to learn new skills, develop self-confidence and meet new friends.
The services you provide as a volunteer are beneficial, not only to yourself, but also to the organisation and, most importantly, to the people gaining direct benefit from your skills, enthusiasm, time, effort and companionship.
Anyone can volunteer. It is all about taking the first step and trying something you have always wanted to do. By volunteering, not only will you be supporting the needs of older men in the community, you will also enjoy the satisfaction that comes from really making a difference.
How can you help?
Volunteers for TOMNET determine their level of involvement and the types of activities they wish to be involved in. We can help you find a position that best fulfils your interests and skills.
Opportunities vary according to a volunteer's availability, skills and preferences, but can include:
-
visiting older men at home to provide social and peer support;
-
providing transport so older men can participate in social activities;
-
assisting with administrative tasks;
-
mentoring programs;
-
outreach activities;
-
meeting tasks;
-
assisting with special events.
All volunteers are covered by insurance whilst undertaking their volunteer work. No special skills or qualifications are required. All volunteers are provided with full induction and a training program to develop their skills. We also have regular informal get-togethers so that everyone gets the chance to meet and have a chat.
The Operations & Volunteer Coordinator and other staff are always available to talk over any concerns or problems you may have.
