Mentoring Program
TOMNET has been involved in the establishment of two youth mentoring programs with the Toowoomba Flexi School and the Toowoomba State South School. These programs provides leadership to the youth in a Grandparenting role through:
- Acting as a source of information
- Listening
- Teaching specific skills
- Bridging the generation gap
- Facilitating the learning process
- Giving guidance and support
- Coaching and effective behaviour
- Helping the youth recognise their strengths
- Participating in cross cultural and multicultural educational programs
Members who participate in the mentoring program and work with children need to undergo a suitablility check by the Commission for Children and Young People to obtain a Blue Card. This can be arranged by contacting the office.
